Every year, nearly one hundred thousand Japanese vanish without a trace. Driven by shame and hopelessness, they leave behind lost jobs, disappointed families, and mounting debts.
Underground Museum, LA held an exhibition to uncover the human faces behind the phenomenon through photos and interviews with those who left, those who stayed behind, and those who help orchestrate the disappearances.
Logo Design
The approach for the museum logo is straight forward. A horizon line helps enhance the underground concept while indicating there is a physical museum space available to the audiences above ground.

Catalog Design
In Japan, there are nighttime moving companies that help people disappear. Inspired by that, the catalog adopted the same concept and was designed as something that was wrapped quickly. The cover is made of soft fabric instead of paper.
